OUR HISTORY

State Line Fire & Safety, Inc. was formed in May of 1970 by two brothers, Frederick D. Kendall and Richard C. Kendall. Both brothers had been volunteer fire fighters since the age of 18 and were also Nyack policemen. They rented an office at 4 Railroad Place in Montvale, NJ, purchased some vehicles for mobile service and a business was born. Within 3 years, they needed additional warehouse space for stock as well as an enclosed area for vehicle installations. A double garage with an upstairs loft was found on Perry Street in nearby Park Ridge.

In 1977 plans were drawn up for a new building on the corner of Grand Avenue and Kinderkamack. When the town would not approve the building due to a lack of parking spaces, the brothers searched for a building to purchase that would meet the company’s needs. In 1978, the building at 50 Park Avenue in Park Ridge, NJ was purchased. The former machine shop was renovated to meet office specifications. With a full basement for service and installation areas and plenty of warehouse space, State Line Fire & Safety, Inc. quietly settled into its new home where it remains.

In 1980, Rich opted out of the partnership to move to New Hampshire. Fred stayed on and has continued to run State Line Fire & Safety, Inc. with great success. The next generation, Fred’s Daughter Jeanette has now taken ownership of the company and are poised to take its success to a new level as a second generation family owned business.
